"그의 음악은 야하고 쓸쓸하다." 2021년 첫 트랙 [Horny]로 언더씬에 등장한 ‘whosthegoose’의 작업물들이 공통적으로 가지는 느낌이다.

그의 음악은 마치 어두운 시각 안개가 낀 공간에서 들려온다면 썩 어울릴 것 같이 흐릿하지만 묵직하다. 향락적이며 몽환적인 첫 인상을 주는 트랙들이 쓸쓸하고 고독한 느낌으로 서서히 변모한다. 영화에서 그늘진 공간에서 옷을 반쯤 풀어헤치고 인간관계에 대한 회의와 디스토피아적 세계관에 대한 한탄과 인정을 주고받는 주인공들을 보고 있는 것만 같다. ‘whosthegoose’는 그 표현을 꽤나 세련되고 트렌디하게 해내고 있는 듯한 느낌을 주는 음악을 하는 아티스트이다.

‘whosthegoose’ 특유의 허스키하고 낮은 목소리의 래핑이 마치 거친 재질의 내벽을 긁으며 응어리가 몸 속을 탈출하는 듯한 묘한 쾌감을 준다. 베이스가 도드라지는 비트들과 잘 묻어나는 리드미컬한 랩을 구사한다.

세상에서 상처받고 돌아오면, 어두움을 인정하고 소화해내는 염세적인, 줄여서 ‘whosthegoose’적인, 음악들이 아이러니하게 상처를 보듬고 다시 세상과 부딪힐 용기를 주는 듯하다. 밤, 외로움, 어두움, 쓸쓸함을 적나라하게 마주하는 방식의 극복을 권하는 음악. 거칠고 투박한 운율과 비트가 제법 근사해 보이는 것은 그런 위로감 때문일 것이다.

His style gives you a smoky, fog-shrouded vibe, blurry and yet heavy. The tracks start with a pleasure-seeking, r-rated impression and as they play, they gradually change their tone to a lonely, placid vibe. Frankly, it's probably the listeners' interpretation that shifts but not the songs themselves. You'll find yourself imagining a scene like a couple of guys and girls, half-naked, snuggled into a couch, talking about one's acceptance of a dystopian, dark, depressing world. He is doing a fine job delivering the feeling in a trendy and stylish way.

His unique husky, low-key rapping comes rough and gives you weird catharsis of something in you wrings out violently. His standing out baseline and rap that goes tight with the beat are recognized as whosthegoose’s signature.

It's the kind of music you would want to listen to when you get back from a "fxxk me" kind of a day and are feel-ing extremely blue. His "whosthegoose-ness" (i.e: an atti-tude that acknowledges the dark side of the world and embraces it to dream romance and pleasure in the des-perate surrounding) ironically feels like it would almost do me a favour and heal my "socially damaged wounds" and hype me up to go back to the world and fight for my life. His peculiarly-healing music is therefore quite ap-pealing.
