동요는 우리의 미래인 어린이들이 부르는 꿈과 희망의 노래입니다. 세상을 향한 해맑은 마음을 담은 고운 노랫말과 우리 땅에서 불렸던 전통적인 가락이 잘 어우러진 국악동요는 우리 어린이들에게 우리 것의 소중함과 자부심을 일깨워주는 중요한 수단이 될 수 있습니다.
국립국악원은 그동안 우리 어린이들이 쉽고 재미있게 부를 수 있는 국악동요를 발굴하고자 많은 노력을 기울여 왔습니다. 1987년부터 시작된「창작국악동요 작품 공모전」과 「국악동요 부르기 한마당」그리고「국악동요 선집」음반제작 등의 사업을 37년째 이어오고 있습니다
국립국악원의 창작 국악동요 사업을 통해 발굴된 510여곡에 이르는 아름다운 국악동요들이 어린이들의 사랑을 받고 있고, 특히 그 중 20여곡이 초등학교 교과서에 수록된 것은 커다란 성과라고 할 수 있습니다.
동요는 어린이의 마음을 살찌우는 양식입니다. 특히 우리의 전통을 바탕으로 한 국악동요는 우리 가락에 대한 친숙함과 음악적 감수성을 키우는 매개체가 될 것입니다. 국악동요가 우리 어린이뿐만 아니라 전 세계 많은 어린이들에게 불리고 그들에게 꿈과 희망을 주는 중요한 역할을 할 수 있기를 기원합니다

Children’s songs are dreams and hopes sung by our future, children. With charming lyrics that convey an innocent outlook of the world and age-old traditional melodies, gugak children’s songs are instrumental in teaching our children to value and take pride in our things.
The National Gugak Center endeavors to discover easy and fun gugak children’s songs. For 37 years, the center has been running various programs such as the Gugak Children’s Song Compilation, Gugak Children’s Song Singing Hanmadang, and Original Gugak Children’s Song Competition launched in 1987.
The National Gugak Center’s original gugak children’s song programs have produced more than 510 beautiful songs that are widely loved by children. Another big achievement is that some 20 of these compositions are now included in elementary school textbooks.

[Song Overview]

01. 소금을 만드는 맷돌 Salt making millstone (Title)
바닷물이 짠 이유가 맷돌이 돌며 소금을 만들기 때문이라는 전래동화를 소재로 한 곡이다. 바다의 신비와 맛의 기본이 되어주는 소금의 역할을 자진모리장단으로 재미있게 한 곡이다.

The song is based on the Korean folk tale about a millstone in the sea that grinds salt, thus making the water salty. The mysteries of the sea and the essential role of salt are expressed playfully with jajinmori jangdan.

02. 별 따러 가자 Get the stars for you
자장자장~ 별을 헤며 예쁜 꿈을 꾸길 바라는 엄마의 사랑과 그 사랑을 느끼는 아이의 마음을 세마치 장단으로 표현한 곡이다.

This lullaby-like song with semachi jangdan expresses the mother’s wish for her child to have a sweet dream counting the stars and the child’s response to her love.

03. 황태중임남 노래 Hwang-tae-joong Song
영화 사운드 오브 뮤직 O.S.T 중 ‘Do-Re-Mi’에서 영감을 받은 곡이다. 우리나라 전통 음계 중 황종평조 솔음계의 구성음(黃, 太, 仲, 林, 南)과 구음(나누너노느)으로 연상되는 단어를 자진모리 장단에 맞춰 노래 부르며 어린이들이 쉽게 전통 음계를 익힐 수 있도록 하였다.

This song is inspired byDo-Re-Mi from the movie Sound of Music. Using jajinmori jangdang, the song lists words prompted by the solfege syllables (na, nu, neo, no, neu) and pitches (hwang, tae, joong, rim, nam) of the hwangjong pyeongjo sol scale, making it easy for children to learn the traditional scale.

04. 봄빛 달빛 Moonlight of springtime
겨울에서 봄으로 넘어가는 어느 날 밤에 달빛 아래 핀 꽃눈을 보며 봄이 다가오고 있음을 느끼며, 다가올 봄에 대한 설레는 마음을 표현한 노래다.

The song expresses one’s excitement about the approaching spring, symbolized by flower buds glowing under the moonlight on a late winter night.

05. 날쌘돌이 물고기 Nimble Fish
가족들과 여름에 계곡에서 물고기를 잡으며 신나게 놀았던 추억을 신명 나는 자진모리 장단으로 표현한 곡이다.

The upbeat jajinmori jangdan recalls fun memories of fishing in a mountain stream with the whole family on a summer day.

06. 소리꾼과 고수 Sorikkun And Gosu
판소리 무대에서 소리꾼과 함께 하는 고수.
소리꾼이 신명 나게 노래할 수 있게 장단을 맞춰주고 적절한 추임새를 넣어 흥을 돋우며 공연을 이끌어가는 역할을 한다.
항상 곁에서 응원해주고 함께하면 더욱 흥이 나는 소리꾼의 친구, 고수를 소개하는 노래다.

The gosu (drummer) accompanies the sorikkun (singer) in pansori.
The gosu’s role is to set the jangdan that the sorikkun can sing to and add chuimsae(exclamation) to make the performance more engaging.
This song introduces the sorikkun’s friend, gosu, whose support and presence are indispensable to the performance.

07. 속담 쏙쏙!담 Sing! Sing! Our Saying
예로부터 전하여 내려오는 격언인, ‘속담’을 주제로 한 노래다. 반복적인 리듬과 주제 선율을 통해 따라 부르기 쉽게 작곡하였고 판소리에 등장하는 의성어, 의태어가 가사에 등장해 재미를 더하고 있다.

This song is about Korean proverbs that have been passed down the generations. The repetitive rhythm and main melody make the song easy to sing while the use of onomatopoeia and mimetic words from pansori add to the fun.

08. 배추밭 애벌레 Cabbageworm
배추밭에 있는 애벌레가 자라는 모습을 어린이의 시각에서 자진모리 장단으로 표현한 곡이다.

Composed with jajinmori jangdang, this song portrays the growth of a cabbageworm as seen from a child’s perspective.

09. 얼음땡 Freeze Tag
학교 운동장, 놀이터 등에서 어린이 즐겨하는 얼음땡 놀이를 소재로 하고 있다. 술래가 잡고 도망가는 모습을 메기고 받는 형식을 통해 익살스럽게 표현한 자진모리 장단의 노래다.

Inspired by the popular freeze tag game that children play in playgrounds and school, the song uses jajinmori jangdan to give a humorous sketch of children teasing and running away from “it.”

10. 달나라 토끼 The Rabbit In The Moon
2023년 토끼의 해인 계묘년을 맞아 ‘달나라에서 토끼가 방아를 찧는다’는 설화를 바탕으로 작곡한 곡이다. 선율 진행은 a-a’-b-b’의 단순한 형식이며, 경토리 선법과 자진모리 장단으로 부르는 밝은 노래다.

Composed for the 2023 Year of the Rabbit, this song is based on the myth about a rabbit pounding with a mortar and a pestle on the moon. With a simple a-a’-b-b’ melody line and jajinmori jangdan, this bright, cheerful song is sung in the Gyeongtori mode.

11. 내 친구 사계절 Always My Friend, Forever My Four Seasons
사계절을 내 친구로 의인화하여 변덕쟁이 봄, 욕심쟁이 여름, 요술쟁이 가을, 심술쟁이 겨울로 표현한 자진모리 장단의 곡이다.

This song with jajinmori jangdang personifies the four seasons as a friend, calling upon whimsical spring, greedy summer, magical autumn, and grumpy winter.

12. 방아 찧는 토끼 Bunny on the moon
달에 사는 토끼가 방아를 찧어 주변의 이웃과 가족, 친구들과 떡을 나눠 먹으며 사이 좋게 지내자는 내용의 노래다.

The song sends a message of living in harmony as portrayed by the rabbit on the moon that shares rice cake with its neighbors, family, and friends.
