앨범 소개

프로젝트의 시작은 늘 거창하다. '정말 멋진 앨범을 만들어야지!'라고 생각하며 내가 쓴 곡들이 고분고분하게 지시를 따라줄 거라고 믿는다. 그러나 그들은 늘 모난 데가 있고 각자 요구사항이 있어서 '쟤 옆에는 앉기 싫다' 또는 '쟤는 나랑 안 맞으니 빼달라' 등의 요구를 늘어놓는다. 나는 어정쩡한 중재자가 되어 그럴싸한 협의를 이끌어내려 애쓴다. 그리고 이것이 지금 내가 내놓을 수 있는 최선이다.

오늘을 살아가는 나를 담았다는 것이 모나고 제멋대로인 이번 앨범 곡들의 유일한 공통점이다. 그 하나뿐인 매듭이 이들을 한 앨범 안에 핏줄처럼 강하게 묶어주길 바란다. 각자의 욕심과 꿈을 안고 모진 세상에 나온 이 곡들에게 행운이 함께하기를. 나보다 오래 살아남기를.

Starting a project always feels grand. I tell myself, “I’m going to make an awesome album!” and assume the songs I’ve written will just fall in line. But they all have their own quirks and demands. One says, “I don’t want to sit next to that one,” and another says, “That song doesn’t vibe with me, leave it out.” So I end up playing the role of the awkward middleman, trying to make some kind of decent compromise. And well, this is the best I could come up with for now.

The only thing these songs have in common is that they all reflect me—living in the moment. I hope that one small thread is enough to tie them together into an album. Wishing these songs, each carrying their own desires and dreams, the best of luck out there in the wild world. I hope they stick around longer than I do.

1. What Makes You?
한없이 무기력하고 모든 것이 귀찮았다. 그럼에도 하루를 또 마주하게 만드는 건 뭘까? 나의 답이 궁금했다.

2. 이별 Amazing
나는… 흡… 하나도 슬프지 않아… 흡… 나는 어메이징해…(눈물을 훔치며)

3. 워크맨
줄 이어폰을 꽂고 테이프를 들으며 걸으면 신이 난다. 아, 나는 아마 옛것을 그리워 하는 요즘 사람.
*Carpenters "Top Of The World"의 일부분을 오마주하여 인용했습니다.

4. 예뻐라 슬픔아
힘든 일을 겪고 마음이 말라 눈물이 없던 한 친구가 있었다. 누군가 잘 운다고 하면 "그게 좋은 거야"라고 말하곤 했다. 그리고 어느 날 그녀가 울었다. 나는 그녀가 다시 울 수 있게 되어 기뻤다.

5. Un Beau Jour De Pluie
비를 무척이나 좋아하는 친구가 있다. 날이 우중충하고 비가 오면 “오늘 날씨 너무 좋다!”라고 기뻐하는 걸 보고 쓰게 된 곡이다. 좋은 날씨가 꼭 화창할 필요는 없구나!

6. News & Sames
몇 년 전 SNS에 올린 포스팅의 글에 그대로 곡을 써달라는 댓글이 달렸다. 그래서 썼다. 계절은 바뀌고 새로운 것들은 계속해서 생겨나지만 늘 같은 자리에 있는 것 또한 소중하다.

7. Land Of What Might Have Been
뮤지컬 위키드의 "I'm Not That Girl"이라는 곡에 나오는 표현이다. "~일 수도 있었는데"라는 생각은 나를 과거에 묶어둔다. 도망쳐!!

8. 뜻밖의 여정
원해서 태어난 사람은 없고 누구에게나 인생은 뜻밖의 여정이다. 우리가 결정해야 하는 건…(곡의 스포가 될 수 있어 뒷부분 생략)
*“반지의 제왕”의 간달프에게 영감을 받았습니다.

9. I Love To Sing
인생 전체를 놓고 봤을 땐 모르겠지만, "What Makes You Move?"라는 질문에 2024년의 내가 내놓을 수 있는 답이다(2025년에 나왔지만). 나는 노래 부르는 걸 사랑하는 사람이다.
